Delegates from the Town of Halton Hills’ sister city, Wenjiang, China, will be in be in town next week as part of the Wenjiang Festival, running between Oct. 23-28.

The weeklong festival is a celebration of the collaboration between the two cities, who signed a sister-city agreement in 2016.

The town will be hosting a number of events to mark the occasion including a performing arts showcase featuring folk dance and Sichuan Opera; workshops and demonstrations of calligraphy and painting; demonstrations, sampling menus and classes in Sichuan cooking; a Wenjiang-themed art show at the Helson Gallery; and activities presented by the regional Chinese Canadian community.

There will also be full-day hockey event organized by the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council, featuring friendly exhibition games with players from China and Halton Hills squaring off as part of the Georgetown Hockey Celebrations.

“Since June of 2016, we have enjoyed a productive partnership with Wenjiang,” said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. “We are very excited to welcome these delegates to our town, and happy to have the opportunity for our citizens to experience the rich culture of our sister city. Fall will be at its most beautiful; it’s a perfect time to share Halton Hills’ special brand of warmth.”
