Globe Productions is marking the 100th anniversary of WW One, when The Old Armoury played a significant role in assembling local soldiers to defend King and Country. Globe took possession of The Old Armoury, located just inside the Georgetown Fairgrounds in 2010, saving it from demolition.
On Sept 27 and 28, Globe will unveil a plaque dedicated to local soldiers in WW One and display historic artifacts from 1914-1918. On Saturday at 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm, Globe members will present two short concerts featuring the songs of WW1. An authentic WW1 pattern military field kitchen will show us how soldiers were fed in the field. An “18 Pounder” gun will be displayed and fired several times over the weekend. Collector’s Source, will display uniforms, firearms (including the Canadian Ross Rifle), photos and medals. The event is from 10 am – 5pm both days and admission is free.
